Introduction

Some of the remote areas of Nepal were restricted for foreign visitors until 1991. After multiparty democracy in Nepal, rule has been changed together with new democratic constitution regulation and opened for visiting the most inaccessible and firmly controlled area in Nepal. The regulation designed primarily to protect the environment and cultural of the remote regions and provide the security and safely for both foreign trekkers and Nepal's northern boarder with China.

One of the restricted area trekking trail is Upper Mustang trekking trail. Upper Mustang trekking must be fully arranged through registered Trekking Company. It has to be fully equipped with tent, all Support staffs, cooks, etc. The trekking agency arranges the trekking permit through a series of applications and guarantees letters.You cannot trek along in the restricted area. You should be at least 2 people in the group. Each group has accompanied with a government environmental officer.The environmental officer has to handle all the formalities with the police and government offices in upper Mustang trekking route.

Detail Itinerary

DAY 01 KATHMANDU
Arrive in Kathmandu. Welcome and Assistance on arrival at Airport. Transfer to Hotel. Hotel Check in. Dinner and overnight stay at Kathmandu.

DAY 02 FLY TO POKHARA
After Breakfast at the Hotel we are transferred to the Domestic Airport to connect flight to Pokhara. Arrival at Pokhara. Visit the Devi's fall and Tibetan camp. One hour boating at Phewa Lake. Overnight in Pokhara.

DAY 03 FLY TO JOMSOM & TREK TO KAGBENI [2780m]
After early breakfast at the Hotel we are dropped at the Pokhara Airport to go to Jomsom. After arrival at Jomsom we start with our trek to the village of Kagbeni, crossing a small bridge and walking along the riverbank of the Kali Gandaki. The trail passes comfortably with providing an opportunity to view the peaks such as Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and Nilgiri. At the north end of Kagbeni is the police check-post, this is the point where we will complete our paper formalities before beginning the Trek. We will stay at the Local Lodge at Kagbeni.

DAY 04 KAGBENI TO CHELE [3100m]
From Kagbeni the trail climbs from one ridge to another and reaches to a plateau at 3040m, then again a short climb to Tangbe at 3060m. Near about one hour trek from Tangbe will reach us to Chhuksung, a Gurung settlement, which is at the confluence of The Narshing Khola and Kali Gandaki. On the way from Kali Gandaki Valley to Chele one gets to view the ancient caves standing high on the eastern bank of the river. Leaving the Kali Gandaki valley behind we climb steep rocky gully to Chele from Kagbeni. We make a stoppage at Chele. This whole day trail is of 5-6 hours.

DAY 05 CHELE TO GELING [3570m]
After a night's rest and breakfast at Chele, we climb in and out of huge side valleys of the Kali Gandaki. From Chele, we climb up a steep spur to a cairn and then connect to another cairn marking the Chele La at 3630m, from where the trail descents to Samar 3620m. Climbing above Samar, the trail goes into another valley filled with trees, crosses a stream and climbs up to the Bhena La from here to Yamdo La and then descending to Shyanmochen, we finally reach our stoppage for the day to a marvelous village at an elevation of 3570m, Geling. W e totally walk for 7-8 hours, ascending 1060m and descending 590m.

DAY 06 GELING TO CHARANG [3560m]
From Geling to Charang, the trail takes us of 6-7 hours. Turning westward from Geling the trail climbs gently through fields, passing below Tama Gaon. Then we climb to Nyi La at 4020m from there we descend to Gheme at 3510m and then gets connects Choya La, beyond the mani wall. From Choya La we are pretty near to our camping site, a long descent from here will lead us to the fields of maze, Charang which is at an elevation of 3560m.

DAY 07 CHARANG TO LO MANTHANG [3840m]
An early start from Chorang, the trail descends about 125m crossing the Charang Chu, climbing up steeply, a rocky trail entering the Tholung Valley. Then from here we forward our trail to Lo La. A short descent from Lo La will lead us to the plateau of Lo Manthang. This place will be our resting spot for the night.

DAY 08 IN LO MANTHANG [3490m]
We spend one whole day exploring the Lo Manthang. There are four major temples at this place. Jampa Lhakhang a three storey temple, Thubchen Gompa, a huge assembly hall near the center of the city, Chodey Gompa, founded by the Mustang King in 1710, the main temple of the city and the Choprang Gompa, which is popularly known as the "New Gompa". Another interesting spot to visit will be the Raja's Palace and also the town with various coffee shops and restaurants will be delighting enough to roam around.

DAY 09 LO MANTHANG TO DRAMKAR
The trail connects to a huge grassy valley crossing a ridge. The trail makes a short descent to a bridge across the Charang Khola to Lo Gekar. From this point we climb to a ridge and some alpine meadows to a crest , then drop down a steep eroded gully over shadowed by red rock towers to the upper part of Dramkar.

DAY 10 DRAMKAR TO SHYANGMOCHEN
Passing the stone walls and fields of the village of Dramkar the trail first descends alongside a stream and then climbs to a ridge at 3710m . Descending to another stream we make a short climb to the upper part of Ghemi. From Ghemi to Jaite and then to Chhung – Ka and to Tama Gaon. From Tama Gaon this trail climbs to a huge painted Chorten, which rejoins Geling trail near the ridge, slightly below the Shyangmochen La. We crossing the pass descend to Shyangmochen, our camp site for the rest of the evening .

DAY 11 SHYANGMOCHEN TO CHHUKSUNG
6-7 hours Shyangmochen will bring us to Chhuksung. On doing so we retrace the upward trail through Yamdo, Bena to Samar, descending through Chele to the Kali Gandaki from where we trek downstream till we reach to Chhuksung.

DAY 12 CHHUKSUNG TO KAGBENI
As we had made our way from Kagbeni to Chhuklsung, similarly we retrace our way back. Firstly we arrive at Tangbe from Chhuksung and then to Kagbeni. Overnighjt stay at the local lodge at Kagbeni

DAY 13 KAGBENI TO JOMSOM
We mark an end to our long trek on arrival at Jomsom from Kagbeni. With all the good memories of the trekking at this region we take rest for the whole day on reaching Jomsom, so that on departure from here to Kathmandu we be fresh and out tired body gets totally relaxed. Overnight stay at the Local Lodge.

DAY 14 JOMSOM TO KATHMANDU VIA POKHARA
After an early morning breakfast at the local lodge at Jomsom we go to the airport to catch flight to Pokhara from where we again take a flight to Kathmandu.

PM: Visit 2000 years old shrine Swyambhunath Temple, which is also known as temple of monkeys. It is said that Asoka paid a visit to the site 2000 years ago. By 1200s it was an important Buddhist center. Visit colorful Durbar square known as Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Temple of living goddess Kumari, Jagannath temple known for its colorfully painted wood carvings and Kasthamandap temple a three story pagoda style. It is believed that this temple is built from single tree in the 12th century. Overnight stay at the Hotel.

DAY 15 Departure
AM: Breakfast at Hotel. Free time till departure to Airport.
